Head to nearby Popham Beach State Park to bask on four miles of expansive white sand beaches. The water temperature is actually quite comfortable from late June through August. Bring a picnic lunch and stay to enjoy tidal pools at Fox Island, or surf fish for stripers.
Explore tidal river estuaries for the nesting sites of the Piping Plover and Least Tern, two endangered species protected here. Secluded Sea Wall Beach is a two-mile hike through balsam forests and tidal marshes where egret, heron and kingfishers feed. Spectacular views of the beaches and Mt. Washington (75 miles away!) are a thrill!
